This blog is about intranets
This blog is about intranets—about my own intranet at City of Malmö, Sweden, and about other intranets I see in my work.
I was hired by City of Malmö in 2003. In the beginning, my job was to produce corporate news on the intranet start page. Kind of like this:
About six month after my first day at work, I had realized this was the least the intranet was in need of. There was a whole world of other things, deeper down, that have to be in place and work.
Otherwise, the intranet does not work.
This revelation was clear to me. Unfortunately, for a couple of years, I could not convince the organization of this.
So let’s fast forward to jan 1, 2010. Since then I have been able to work full time on our intranet as an intranet manager, in the truest sense. Today, two years later, I and my colleagues have developed and implemented a new generation intranet in several steps.
During all these years I have learnt some things about intranets, what to do and what not to do. And in the earlier years I had a lot of time to think about how to deliver a good intranet if I ever would get the chance.
Nine years is a lot of working hours. In the last couple of years I have started to occasionally dream about intranets when I sleep—and this is not nightmares! I dream about information architecture, integrations, mastheads, responsive web design and successful deliveries of these things. Is this good or bad, related to my mental health? I chose to believe this is a healthy sign, I dream because I am committed to my job, to intranets.
This blog is about making you just as obsessed as I am.
